The Department of Malayalam of Sree Ayyappa College for Women was established in 1969. It is headed by a single faculty. Students from Kanyakumari district and the neighbouring state Kerala are major beneficiaries. The Department offers the Course Part I Language- Malayalam and has paved the way for socio-cultural and linguistic harmony of the people.
The Department gives special interest in enhancing literature and language abilities of the students. The Malayala Samajam which works under the Department of Malayalam encourages the extracurricular activities and talents along with their regular curriculum. Moreover, the Department of Malayalam aims at the enhancement of personality of the students.
Apart from teaching and learning, department conducts various cultural competitions and to nourish reading habit, every year the department collaborates with Richardson hospital, Nagercoil and Malayala Manorama to distribute newspapers to the students under the scheme “Vayanakkalari”. The Department of Malayalam also subscribes Malayalam journals and publications for the benefit of students.
VISION
To promote the linguistic and literary value of Malayalam and to mould a socially responsible generation with self-esteem and independent thinking through Malayalam language and literature.
MISSION
● To mould a generation with social commitment, sense of citizenship and good personality through learning of Malayalam language and literature.
