Plant Description: A climbing shrub with spiny stems, leaves are ovate to triangular with an irregular, undulate leaf margin. The stem is lined with yellow spines which are long and hooked. Inflorescences are extra-axillary, peduncle short, 3-9- purple flowers. The fruit is small, red coloured berry.
Uses: It is mainly used in the treatment of respiratory diseases like bronchial asthma. Use thuthuvalai for treating cold and cough also.
The bitter roots and young shoots given in the form of decoction or as powder for common cold.
The leaf juice is used as a remedy for fever.
