The Department of Tamil, established in 1969, offers Part 1 Tamil for undergraduate (BA, Bsc, Bcom) courses. The curriculum is designed according to Manonmaniam Sundaranar University,  and it not only provides Tamil knowledge but also enables students for take up various competitions examinations of the state and Central Governments.
Various minor and major projects are sanctioned by UGC to the deaprtment. Every year Tamil department Association celebrates Thiruvallur Day, Women’s Day Anna Pooja by conducting various competitions to inspire talentin the students. Students participate in intercollegiate competitions conducted by Aadhar Card such as script writing poetry writing and received prizes and cash awards. The department plans to offer certificate courses in Tamil for job prospects.
