Botany

About the Department:
Established in 1979, The Department of Botany is a hub of scientific exploration focused on the study of plants, encompassing their structure, function, evolution, classification, and ecological relationships. Our Department is committed to advancing knowledge in plant biology through research, education, and the dissemination of information. The Department intends to provide quality education with balanced basic knowledge of modern plants sciences to the students. The strength of our Department lies in the extensive knowledge in teaching Botany through a highly motivated team of well qualified and subject specialized academic staffs. It is supported with well-equipped, spacious, classrooms and laboratory. These have resulted in meritorious students willingly opting for Botany as a major subject and occupying the top positions in the merit list of P.G. admission in many Universities. The essential knowledge delivered through the core papers taught over three years provides a window to the Research and Development and the Industrial applications of Botany. Through the Skill Enhancement papers like the Microbial biotechnology, Horticulture, Medicinal Botany and Bioinformatics, students get a broad picture of associated fields that can be a path to the job avenues after graduation. The Department has high participation of students in various extension activities promoting organic farming, mushroom cultivation and biodiversity conservation. Experiential learning is strengthened through field visits to various biodiversity Parks, industrial Units, and research Laboratories. Our continuous endeavour is to receive inputs from all stakeholders to improve and build the Department as the Knowledge Centre.
