Description:
It is a herbaceous aromatic plant
It has a quadrangular stem as seen in many other species of genus.
The leaves are very thick and succulent, grey-green and hairy.
Flowers are pale bluish at branched intervals in a long slender raceme.
USES
It has been used in Ayurvedic and folk medicine in Sri Lanka for centuries. It is used to treat inflammatory conditions, microbial infections, smallpox, the common cold, and eye diseases.
Iruveli is used to treat ailments like vomiting, diarrhea, fever, leuchoderma, chronic liver disease, indigestion, and urinal disorders. It is also a key ingredient in Ayurvedic preparations like devashtagandha, iruveli kashayam, and snana choornam. Iruveli has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and possibly antifungal properties.
