About the Department

The Department of History was established in 1970 with four staff members and 20 students. Department of History was the first Department of Sree Ayyappa College with a course with Tamil as the medium of learning. BA History with English medium was started in 1971. This Department was established to spread the knowledge of World History to the younger generation and enrich them with General Knowledge, preparing them for Government Exams and various other exams. The Department has been providing placement assistance for years to entrust that our students join various Government jobs. Various seminars and conferences, both international and national were conducted with the motive of upliftment of our students. Every year, final year students are taken to historically important places to get an in-depth knowledge of the same. Cultural activities and various Departmental activities are being conducted to encourage students to bring out their talents and prepare them for the future.

VISION
To build its students’ transferrable skills, employability and intellectual curiosity, along with raising public awareness about the past and its legacies through teaching, research and service activity conducted locally, statewide, regionally, nationally and internationally.

MISSION
To prepare students for a wide range of careers by teaching a core set of transferrable skills through the study of societies, culture and economies across a broad chronological and geographical spectrum.
